Professional background

Tobias has a background in Political Science with specializing in Governing Complex and Innovative Technological Systems (M.A.) at Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg in Germany. His main areas of interest and expertise include governance and management approaches to urban innovation systems, transitions towards sustainability, technological niches, knowledge and technology transfer for urban infrastructures as well as organisational adaption and learning. Before joining the Institute for Technology Futures at KIT in 2021, Tobias worked as a researcher at University of Wuppertal in Germany and covered the topic of regional transformation and the role of community-based maker platforms to foster urban innovation systems. Next to his work at KIT, he is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies at ERASMUS University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His PhD topic is covering governance conditions for urban e-mobility transitions in Europe and the US.
